Salary £70,000 – £80,000 dependent on experience (pro rata’d)

As our new Senior Finance Manager at Saga within AICL(our in-house underwriter) you will have full ownership of balance sheet ledger.

Acromas Insurance Company Limited (AICL), underwrites home and motor policies with transactions over £ 1.5 million. You will be responsible for, and will take ownership of, for the production and delivery of all internal and external financial reporting requirements, including preparation of the statutory financial statements, oversight and management of the balance sheet, and liaising with internal and external auditors.

Reporting to the Financial Controller and working in collaboration with the record 2 Report and FR&C teams, you will be a pivotal part of ensuring the production of reliable financial information.

Role Responsibility

As our Senior Finance Manager for AICL you will lead the month-end process and own the creation of the monthly balance sheet pack, reviewing balance sheet reconciliations and monitoring progress of associated actions

Other accountabilities include:

  • Preparation of annual statutory accounts for AICL while liaising with company auditors to facilitate and monitor responses to the AICL audit plan
  • Support the Financial Controller in the maintenance of a robust control environment and the enhancement and testing of the financial control framework
  • Become the lead contact for external audit and facilitate the provision of information as required
  • Contribute to the production of regulatory reporting as required
  • Support with the preparation of Audit Committee papers for meetings held throughout the year where relevant.
  • Build excellent working relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external, including colleagues across finance, internal and external audit.
  • Show curiosity to continually review and improve the control and process environment of the business
  • Provide adhoc support as required
  • Support system development, implementation and change to deliver process improvement and enhanced management reporting
  • Coach and develop other team members, leading by example and providing motivation within both AICL Finance and the wider Saga Finance team

The Ideal Candidate

For our Senior Finance Manager, it is essential that you have experience with financial reporting within an underwriting business. Ideally you would be ACA, ACCA or CIMA qualificatied.

Other skills and experience required include:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a range of colleagues at varying levels
  • Able to quickly establish credibility, winning the respect and co-operation of colleagues
  • High integrity and objectivity, capable of selling ideas and implementing change
  • Analytically strong with the ability to challenge and interrogate, facilitating the ability to identify anomalies or inconsistencies and pursue these through to a resolution
  • Inquisitive, and strong desire to understand the “why” behind processes in order to perform them better and identify opportunities
  • Able to work independently without constant oversight
  • Relish the challenge of working to tight deadlines and during periods of pressure
