We are looking for a positive and supportive teaching assistant to work in a new specialist education provision.

Who we are: Cambian is one of the largest providers of specialist behavioural health and care services for children in the United Kingdom. Its children's services comprise specialist education, specialist residential care, foster care, and specialist mental health services.

The school: Cambian Great Dunmow school will cater to the needs of up to 25 mixed sex pupils aged 11 to 19 with a primary diagnosis of social, emotional and mental health needs. This well-resourced school will have a high ratio of student to staff with small class sizes and a curriculum that is bespoke to needs of the children and young people.

The school aims to provide meaningful, positive personalised educational opportunities for dis-engaged pupils who are being prepared to be re-integrated back into mainstream setting. Within this setting education, residential and therapeutic practitioners work together collaboratively with a focus on promoting students’ well-being encouraging resilience and supporting their holistic growth.

Job Profile

You will be helping to create a safe, nurturing and caring learning environment in which children and young people can enhance their academic and personal development. You will support with personalised learning activities in school, off site and through remote learning as timetabled to allow children and young people to develop their full potential. The teaching assistant will be critical within the team as you will work with teachers to support small groups or pupils on a one- to one basis helping students to regulate their emotions and to engage in lessons and other activities. The teaching assistant  will be required to deliver educational interventions, and to contribute to the development and monitoring of learning and behaviour support plans.

The ideal teaching assistant will:

  • Have good interpersonal skills and will be able interact with and communicate confidently with staff and students and other stakeholders
  • Have knowledge of the curriculum and some knowledge of local alternative provisions that will extend the school curriculum offer
  • Good IT skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • The teaching assistant will have a positive, can do, attitude.
  • Ability to manage your time and workload effectively.
  • Sound understanding of Safeguarding practice and procedures.
  •  Have GCSE standard, or equivalent, of Maths and English

In addition, it is essential that you understand safeguarding practice and procedure and are able to maintain confidential information in line with GDPR.

Experience:

  • Experience as a Teaching assistant (desirable but not essential).
  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification (desirable but not essential).
