Overview

We are currently looking to recruit a motivated, child focused and enthusiastic social worker to join our Child Looked After Service in Middlesbrough.

To help us recruit social workers who are committed to working in Middlesbrough we are currently offering a 15% supplement to social work salaries. This additional 15% will be reviewed at the end of March 2027.

The candidate will need a full valid driving licence and be registered with Social Work England.

You will at least be 2 years post qualified, have experience of Safeguarding, working with Children Looked After, Adoption, and supporting children through transition including reunification plans.

Your main duties will include:

Undertaking statutory home visits within timescales and excellent recording and timekeeping skills.

You should have experience and be highly skilled in undertaking direct work with children.

You will be expected to have good knowledge and understanding of the Child Looked After processes using LCS.

You will be expected to prepare reports for and attend Child Looked After reviews, hold monthly Care Team meetings and record them in a timely manner.

You will also attend strategy meetings, stability meetings and be confident and competent in undertaking Child and Family Assessments, Viability Assessments, Special Guardianship Support plans and Assessments, Discharge statements for court and together or apart assessments and completing Child Permanence Reports.

You will be responsible for managing your own caseload and will need excellent report writing skills. In addition, you should be able to demonstrate working in a relationship based and trauma informed way committed to supporting our children to achieve permanence in a timely way and supporting them to understand their history and journey in to care, supporting relationships with their families and re-assessing family members to consider safe reunification planning and reducing the number of children in our care service.

The Child Looked after teams in Middlesbrough offer high support, regular monthly supervision and will consider condensed working hours. You will be part of a supportive team of committed practitioners and will be expected to be in the office twice per week, we operate a duty rota and on your duty day you will be expected to be office based. The main office building is in the city centre where there is parking within walking distance.

Salary: £34,314 – £42,708 (Plus 15% market supplement £5,147.10 – £6,406.20)
