Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking to appoint a Professor of Interior Spatial and Sustainable Design to provide intellectual, strategic, and academic leadership for the discipline. You will build and sustain a nationally and internationally recognised research profile, lead high-quality studio-based teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate level, and strengthen our external partnerships across industry, practice, and the wider design sector. Candidates will be innovative in their outlook to teaching and research, and address current environmental and societal issues as core to their work.

This is a senior academic post and we welcome applications from candidates with a distinguished record of research, scholarship, or practice-based enquiry in interior design, interior architecture, or a closely related field.

ABOUT THE TEAM
The School of Design, Arts and Creative Industries (DACI) at Northumbria University is a leading provider of graduates to UK design and creative industries and has an outstanding track-record for design leadership amongst its alumni. 
 
Our graduates go on to shape practice across commercial, hospitality, healthcare, residential and heritage sectors. 
 
The school prioritises societal transformation and green-transition across all design disciplines, which include product, industrial and service design areas. DACI is a large school with approximately 1,600 students with 120 staff and offers programmes from foundation level to PhD in design and creative subjects. 
 
The school prioritises inclusion and access, aiming to break down barriers so that all students can thrive within the creative industries.

ABOUT YOU
As an externally recognised academic with a strong national and or international reputation you will evidence sustained research output of a quality that is internationally excellent in terms of originality, significance, and rigour. 
 
An experienced academic leader you will demonstrate success in the leadership and management of people, teams, and projects, in particular supporting the development of academic colleagues.
 
You should demonstrate definition and development of your academic field and have significant and strong record of securing funding from a range of sources.
