Overview

Postdoctoral Research Associate – Strand, London, WC2R 2LS

About Us

Are you a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher with a strong background in human immunology? We’re seeking a skilled scientist to join the Autoimmunity and Immune Regulation Team, led by Professor Tim Tree, at King’s College London.

Our team focuses on understanding the immune system’s role in autoimmune and inflammatory diseases and exploring immunotherapy to treat them. This exciting project involves characterising samples from a recently completed Phase II clinical trial for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

About the role

The project’s primary goal is to investigate how low-dose IL-2 affects the neuro-inflammatory process. You’ll use advanced cellular immunology techniques to conduct deep phenotypic and functional characterisation of regulatory T cells (Tregs), establishing their relationship with treatment responses and disease activity.

This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a collaborative research program dedicated to improving our understanding of ALS and informing future clinical trials. You’ll also benefit from being part of a larger team investigating Treg biology and Treg-focused immunotherapies in other diseases.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cellular immunology and be proficient in analysing complex single-cell data. We utilise cutting-edge techniques, including high-dimensional flow cytometry (using CyTek Aurora) and single-cell transcriptional profiling (using 10x Genomics)

Excellent communication skills and a passion for learning new assays and analysis techniques are essential.

The position is based at Guy’s Hospital, giving you access to state-of-the-art core facilities for flow cytometry, genomics, and bioinformatics. This role provides a unique opportunity for an ambitious scientist to advance their career in translational immunology.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered an  fixed term contract for 18 months.

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the  Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7. Visit the  Centre for Research Staff Development for more information.
