Overview

What you’ll be doing

You will be a key member of the Mitchell Beazley, Conran and Ilex team, providing essential administrative and editorial assistance during every stage of the commissioning and acquisition process – from the development of concepts and the creation of pitches, through origination, publication and beyond. Your role will support new ideas, original commissions, exciting acquisitions, IP and backlist projects, reformats and digital editions across our programme. There will be nitty-gritty day-to-day detail, and opportunities to learn, develop and stretch your commercial and creative muscle. You’ll work directly with the commissioning team, departments throughout Octopus and with colleagues across Hachette as required – and you’ll play an important part in our external relationships, liaising directly with key partners from authors and agents to brands and organisations.

Who we are looking for

You are bright, upbeat, curious and ‘can-do’; into numbers, data and editorial detail as well as language, ideas and communication; a highly organised multitasker with a flair for collaboration – and getting the best out of people; keen to position books effectively and help sell them successfully; a real enthusiast for illustrated non-fiction publishing in general and the genres in which this team specialises in particular; hungry to learn – and to grow within our industry.

What we offer

Our staff are our greatest asset and our benefits reflect this. In addition to 28 days annual leave days per year + bank holidays, we have an extensive list of benefits that include: a wide-ranging training library, development programmes including mentoring, Cycle to Work vouchers, Private Medical Insurance, eye care vouchers, up to 70% off book purchases, a charity book shelf, 2 community days per year, many employee networks to join, summer hours (finishing at 1pm on Fridays during the summer months!), season ticket loans, rent deposit loans, generous pension schemes and much more!

The role will be based at our London office, Carmelite House, with a blend of in-office (3 days) and homeworking (2 days) per week.
