We’re looking for a friendly and reliable Catering Assistant to support our team in delivering exceptional service at the National Railway Museum in York.

This full-time position (40 hours per week) is perfect for someone with a passion for hospitality, a positive attitude, and the flexibility to work across both front-of-house and kitchen areas. Key Responsibilities:

  • Basic food preparation, counter set up and serving of food and beverages
  • Handling cash and card transactions accurately
  • Operating coffee machines, grinders, and other equipment safely and efficiently
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the café and associated working areas
  • Restocking supplies and monitoring inventory levels
  • Ensuring the highest level of customer care is delivered to customers
  • Working collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth daily operations
  • Following food hygiene, and Health & Safety guidelines in line with training which is provided

About you:

  • Benefit from having experience as a café assistant or barista
  • Be flexible to work 5 days out of 7, including weekends and school holidays
  • A friendly, positive, and professional manner with a passion for customer service
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and take direction from supervisors 
  • Flexible and adaptable to different tasks and service needs
  • Good communication skills and a willingness to engage with guests
  • A proactive approach to maintaining cleanliness and organisation
  • Reliability, punctuality, and a can-do attitude
  • Previous experience in a similar hospitality or catering role
