Title:   Community Transport Driver
Reports to: Senior Community Transport Driver
Accountable to: Community Transport Manager
Location: Various hubs across Surrey
Hours:                   Full Time (37.5) – Core hours Monday to Friday with flexibility needed across some evenings and weekends.

Job Purpose

To provide transport services to the people we support at the start and end of the day, ensuring they are safely picked up and dropped off at our various services across Surrey, or directly into the community to attend activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provision of door-to-door transport services to the people we support, to and from home services.
  • Driving a company minibus, ensuring all service-users are transported safely and in line with all policies and procedures.
  • Establishing positive and professional relationships with passengers, their carers/parents and key colleagues at the services and activities they attend.
  • Ensuring passenger safety, including helping passengers on and off the vehicle when required.
  • Performing regular vehicle checks in line with procedures and reporting any concerns or issues to the Senior Community Transport Driver or the Community Transport Manager.
  • Operation of all vehicle equipment, including steps, seat belts, wheelchair clamps and tail lifts.
  • Reporting any safeguarding concerns or issues to the Senior Community Transport Driver or Community Transport Manager.
  • Ensuring the minibus is kept clean and tidy

  • Maintain professional and personal boundaries with all customers, parents & carers, colleagues and other professionals
  • Take responsibility for own continuous professional development and maintaining an adequate level of knowledge and skills about the role.
  • Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required of this role and as requested by the Manager(s).
  • Take all reasonable precautions to maintain the health and safety of oneself and others, ensuring that any risks about this are reported and remedial action taken promptly.

Person Specifications, Qualification, Experience, Skills, Knowledge

Qualification and Training

 

  

 

  • Full, UK driving – 6 penalty points maximum upon appointment
  • Pass a driving assessment.

 

 

  

 

  • UK driving licence – category 4
  • Passenger safety training
  • No Penalty Points
Skills, Knowledge and Experience

 

 

  

  • Aged 21+ for insurance purposes.
  • Medically fit to drive and willing to undertake a medical if required.
  • 2 years’ previous driving licence (for insurance purposes), Good driving record (driving records will be risk assessed).
  • Ability to support people using the services in and out of the vehicle
  • Willing to be trained to drive a minibus.
  • Willing to be fully trained in wheelchair safety and restraint when on vehicles
  • Ability to act effectively to diffuse any difficult situations on the vehicles and to write brief notes/reports on incidents.
  • Ability to liaise over day-to-day concerns between home and services with tact and diplomacy.
  • Clear verbal and written communication skills and the ability to maintain written records, including recording passenger complaints.
  • Willing to be flexible in terms of starting times, finishing times and locations (within an area).

 

  

  • Previous experience working as a Community Transport Driver
  • Experience of working with people with disabilities
  • Previous experience of driving a minibus
  • Ability to work flexibly within the services’ core hours and outside of normal office hours, within a rota.
  • Clean driving record with no accidents in the last 5 years.
