Senior Communications Officer – Liverpool

Who are we:

Since 1988, Everton in the Community has become a dynamic force for good, harnessing the unifying power of football to drive social change and addressing societal challenges across Liverpool City Region. Supported by a team of over 130 full-time staff and over 200 volunteers, the independently governed and independently financed charity offers an extensive array of more than 60 programmes and initiatives that tackle a diverse range of social issues including health, employability, anti-social behaviour, crime, exploitation, education, dementia, and disability.  

Everton in the Community stands firmly beside the most at-risk and most in need members of its local communities, but the needs of the city are ever-growing and ever-evolving and the official charity of Everton Football Club is committed to helping as many people as possible.

    

About the opportunity: 

The Senior Communications Officer will play a key role in telling the story of Everton in the Community and will support the delivery of high-quality, engaging communications that raise awareness of the charity’s impact whilst protecting and enhancing its reputation.

As well as elevating the profile of Everton in the Community in the local, national and international media, the successful candidate will need to be passionate about using their skills to help support fundraising initiatives, funding development and charity campaigns.

 

Safeguarding    

  • To understand the Club’s Safeguarding policy, procedures, and best practice guidelines.     
  • To use this understanding to ensure safe working practices, appropriate reporting of concerns and contribute positively to an Anti-bullying environment.    

Key Responsibilites

  • Support the Communications team in the delivery of the communications strategy and to drive positive media coverage through the creation of materials, press releases and online content which effectively tell the story of the charity, its programmes and impact.
  • Proactive in seeking out media opportunities to both elevate the charity’s strategic objectives and profile building for the CEO and Executive team.
  • Support with copywriting and content for all media, marketing and corporate collateral across the charity including website stories, social media and newsletters.
  • Build a database of relevant contacts throughout local, national and international media.

Who we are looking for: 

We are looking for an individual who has excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deal effectively with contacts at all levels.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential for this role, as is attention to detail.

Essentially our ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience of working in the charity sector and/or within a professional sports organisation and understanding of new media technologies.

Other Key Skills and Experience

  • Experience working in a communications, PR, or media role.
  • Degree (or equivalent) in a PR or Communications-related discipline 
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences.
  • Understanding of media relations and the current landscape.
  • Experience creating content for digital and social media platforms.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Confidence working with a wide range of stakeholders such as key funders (Steve Morgan Foundation and Premier League), MPs and Everton Football Club.

This is a hands-on role and is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys working across multiple projects at once.

The hours for this role are 35 per week and will be offered on a permanent contract.

This role will be based across EitC Campus and other locations as deemend suitable by the Senior Communications Officer – EitC
