The role of the Strategic Management Office (SMO) within E&F is to lead the strategic direction of the Directorate. The Design & Content Lead role sits within the Strategic Engagement & Communications team in the Strategic Management Office and reports to the Internal Communications & Engagement manager.
 

About the role:

The Design & Content lead provides design and content development and management services to promote, protect and enhance the work of E&F in delivering world class facilities and services to students and staff and, as a key enabling partner to the University’s vision.
 
The postholder’s day to day responsibility is to work with and support the Internal Communications & Engagement manager through the provision of design and content development, for use across a range of pre-planned channels.
 
The individual will be required to play an active role in the running of the All Hands meetings with the Internal Communications & Engagement manager and to contribute ideas to continuous improvement across all channels, seeking innovative ways to communicate with our workforce to keep colleagues engaged.
 
The Design & Content lead will work with the Internal Communications & Engagement Manager to create compelling stories and generate content for campaigns, such as the Celebrating our People, to be used across channels such as social media, internal news, intranet, website, university wide news, external media etc to ensure a consistent feed of positive and engaging stories that maintain awareness of the role that E&F plays to enable the University’s vision.
 
The Design & Content lead will collaborate with departments within E&F and at times, with other departments and faculties on a range of project deliverables. In addition to design and content, key to success will be the ability to look at the bigger picture to scope out what is needed and to manage the project end to end with the customer at front of mind.
 
The postholder will also be responsible for providing design and content development services to the Strategic Management Office, developing various directorate-wide documents, ensuring E&F’s vision and strategy is clearly communicated throughout the University. They will act as a gatekeeper for content style, language, tone of voice and accuracy of materials developed for the SMO.
 
The Design & Content lead will be responsible for all ‘on campus’ advertising of estates support and customer services such as ‘Ask’ signage, and ‘Attn’ notices. At a more corporate level, the postholder will also be responsible and accountable for maintaining the internal and external webpages for E&F and also the E&F Sharepoint site, continually seeking ways to cross fertilise content across channels, increasing engagement and views.
This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 25th September 2026 (with possible extension of 6 months) 
 

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
 Essential criteria
  1. Extensive experience across graphic design and in developing integrated, engaging and compelling campaigns, ideally in Adobe.
  2. Experience of website content management, including planning, content creation and maintenance.
  3. Excellent IT skills and a high level of technical aptitude. Including use of MS Office applications, and content management software for webpages, ideally Contensis.
  4. Confident and experienced in collaborating with and managing a wide range of stakeholders.
  5. Ability to develop creative and engaging content for a variety of audiences; proactively seeking ways to make content and design more engaging.
  6. Strong verbal and written communication skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately for diverse audiences. Ability to edit copy and proofread accurately.
  7. Proactive approach with the ability to work independently, but also as part of a team, driving collaboration where needed.
  8. Ability to prioritise a busy workload while maintaining accuracy, departmental standards and attention to detail
 
Desirable criteria
  1. Knowledge and experience of working in the higher education sector
  2. Experience of working on the preparation, compilation and distribution of digital newsletters.
  3. Experience with other design software and applications (beyond Adobe)
  4. Experience with photography; shooting people, places and activity
