Location: London with hybrid working / and supporting flexible working

Closing Date: 2025-09-04 23:59:00

We’re looking for a confident and collaborative leader to manage and shape Girlguiding’s approach to activity health and safety in all Girlguiding’s activities for girls, this includes adventure, events, local and international travel, venues and local Girlguiding properties.

This role is about more than technical expertise. It’s about leading a newly formed team, building strong relationships across the organisation, and ensuring that our safety culture is embedded and understood at every level. You’ll guide strategic and operational priorities, support others to deliver them, and ensure that our practices remain aligned with current and emerging legislation and best practice.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and developing a team to deliver improvements in activity health and safety.
  • Building shared understanding and ownership of safety practices across staff and volunteers in UK country and region teams.
  • Overseeing investigations into incidents and near misses, ensuring learning is captured and shared.
  • Working closely with internal and external partners to ensure Girlguiding remains compliant and forward-thinking in its approach to health, safety and welfare.

We’re looking for someone with a professional qualification and/or relevant experience in implementing health and safety systems and strategy. But just as importantly, you’ll be someone who can lead through change, build trust, and bring people together around a shared vision for safety and wellbeing.

About Girlguiding

Girlguiding is the UK’s largest youth organisation dedicated completely to girls. We’re over 300,000 Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers, who come together to laugh, learn, explore and have adventures, in communities across the UK and virtually. We’re almost 80,000 volunteers who make guiding happen by giving time, talent and enthusiasm. Girls can do anything. We’re a powerful collective voice – with girls, led by girls – changing the world for the better.

Girlguiding values the differences that a diverse workforce brings and is committed to inclusivity, and to employing and supporting a diverse workforce. We are proud to work with a number of organisations who support us to create and maintain a culture that celebrates diversity and champions inclusion in the workplace. While Girlguiding’s young members may be women only, our staff team is mixed gender. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds.

Girlguiding operates a hybrid working arrangement where office based staff are required to attend the office on average two days a week, or 40% of working time across the year. Location allowance is payable to those who work in accordance with out hybrid working model. We’re committed though to supporting our staff to achieve a good work-life balance and offer flexible working options wherever we reasonably can. All staff are required to carry out our online health and safety training and complete a DSE risk assessment to ensure we can provide the support you require.

We strive to ensure our recruitment processes are accessible to everyone. If you would like to receive any information in a different way or would like support in helping you to apply, please get in touch with HR@girlguiding.org.uk or by calling 0207 592 1892.
