Overview

Research Associate – Strand, London, WC2R 2LS

About us

The Department of Chemistry is a dynamic and collaborative environment within the Faculty of Natural, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences, dedicated to cutting-edge research and academic excellence. We are excited to offer an opportunity for a motivated individual looking to advance their career in chemical research and contribute to impactful scientific discovery.

As a Research associate in Chemistry, you will be part of a vibrant research community, working closely with academic staff, postdoctoral researchers, and students. You will play a key role in supporting and delivering high-quality research projects, contributing to publications, and fostering innovation within the department. This position also involves collaboration with faculty and central services to ensure a supportive and productive research environment.

About the role

This is a short-term PDRA position to support last work package of our ERC project covering advanced electrochemical characterisation of redox enzyme systems for their use in single-protein electrical platforms. The candidate will embark in a strongly interdisciplinary environment working on very different disciplines from chemistry, physics, molecular biology, and engineering. They will contribute to an exciting ERC project designing new single-protein platforms to electrically transduce enzymatic catalysis at high resolution for fundamental studies of enzymatic mechanisms as well as enzymatic sensing. Specifically, the role of the PDRA position will involve in the key development of the bioelectrocatalysis characterisation of various redox enzymes targeted in this study, namely, cytochrome P450cam, Hydrogenases variants and a catalytically fast Glutathione Reductase.

The candidate will have the opportunity to also participate in cutting-edge single-protein electrical characterization using precisely controlled nanogap platforms in a physiological environment.

This is a full time (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until (28/02/2026).

Research staff at King’s are entitled to at least 10 days per year (pro-rata) for professional development. This entitlement, from the  Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers, applies to Postdocs, Research Assistants, Research and Teaching Technicians, Teaching Fellows and AEP equivalent up to and including grade 7.
