The Role
The Law Society is the independent professional body for solicitors in England and Wales. Our members are at the heart of what we do and we’re committed to providing ongoing support, training and events to assist them in their careers.
The Senior Legal Adviser role will see you work autonomously but under the supervision of and supporting the Head of Legal. You will help the Society to deliver its commercial objectives by providing commercial legal advice and support to the Society by drafting and negotiating various contracts, including procurement contracts, commercial sales agreements, IP licenses and dealing with commercial property matters. You will also provide strategic legal advice. The scope of work can often be unpredictable, taking instructions from internal clients across a wide range of business areas including the Chief Executive Office. Advice is often required under pressure, and a pragmatic and solution-focused approach is essential.
What we’re looking for
Are you someone who can ask the right questions and deliver practical solutions?
We are looking for a qualified solicitor with at least 4 years post qualification experience, having advised on a range of legal areas in an in-house environment.
To be successful, you will have an extensive track record providing clear and pragmatic advice which is both legally and commercially sound, as well as demonstrable knowledge of corporate and commercial law, commercial property, contract law (including agile agreements) and Intellectual property law. In addition, knowledge of competition law would also be desirable.
You will be someone with a diverse knowledge base, able to exercise sound judgment and solutions-focused approach with experience working with both internal and external stakeholders. You will have the confidence and the ability to advise, present and influence at a senior stakeholder level, across the Society’s business and governance. You must have exceptional oral and written communication skills and the ability to adapt to an unpredictable work environment and to prioritise under pressure.
What’s in it for you
This is an excellent opportunity to work with contemporary thinkers in a progressive membership organisation. You will be joining an organisation that works diligently to protect everyone’s right to have access to Justice and to make sure no-one is above the Law.
We provide a welcoming and respectful working environment, offering support to help everyone thrive and be at their best. We like to think creatively and work collaboratively to achieve our success.
The Law Society is committed to creating a diverse working environment that is inclusive, welcoming, and respectful. Applications from candidates with broad and diverse lived experiences are welcome.
We offer a generous flexible benefits package.
We support a hybrid way of working and would expect you to be present in our London office for three days each week.
Please note: if you are an internal applicant, Pay Policy will apply.
We use anonymised recruitment which means the hiring manager will not see your CV until the point of a confirmed interview. As a result, you must use the supporting statement (no more than 1000 words) to clearly demonstrate that your skills, knowledge and experience meet the essential criteria of the job description, as outlined under ‘What we’re looking for’. (above).
