The purpose of a Creative Technologist within Burberry is to help the business identify and utilise “what’s next” in terms of technology in digital storytelling and immersive experiences. From new ways to leverage live stream video and building multiplayer gaming infrastructure through to NFT collections, GAN style transfer AI and Native VR experiences, there are no boundaries for what we want to be playing with. This role is to research, develop and educate within the business so we can off the next generation of customer engagement in the digital space, wherever those touchpoints may exist.


  • Researching new technologies and identifying new marketing and business opportunities through their adoption
  • Researching ideal 3rd parties for partnerships and collaborations
  • Deliver findings to the team and the business more broadly in presentations and forums
  • Providing high level estimates of effort to support Project Manager with statements of work and timing plans
  • Contribute proactively to creative brainstorms and workshops
  • Support creative team with the “art of the possible”
  • Scope out appropriate system architecture against project requirements
  • Develop technical documentation to illustrate system architecture and process flows
  • Deliver rapid prototypes and proof-of-concepts to bring creative ideas to life
  • Work collaboratively with Creative and Design to ensure ideas are both feasible and expansive as possible
  • Write well structured, clean code for project deliveries
  • Adopt appropriate security measures during the project lifecycle to ensure the safety of user and company data
  • Take part in and run peer-to-peer code reviews
  • Setup and maintain appropriate infrastructure
  • Ensure applications are well tested prior to launch
  • Capture key learnings from project development to feedback and improve upon our ways of working and technology choices


  • Expert level programming skills
  • Extensive experience as a Front-End or Full-Stack Developer Javascript developer
  • An expert knowledge of the principles of Object Oriented programming
  • In-depth knowledge of at least 1 Javascript framework such as React.js or Vue.js
  • Strong understanding of performance considerations in development of immersive experiences
  • Confident using git for version control, including using MRs, PRs, the importance of Code Reviews, branches and rebasing over merging
  • Experience with at least one non-web-based programming language or development platform for creative purposes, e.g. Unity, Unreal, Touch Designer, C#, C, Python, Arduino etc
  • A strong, demonstrable understanding of immersive technologies such as AR, VR, or projection mapping
  • A solid understanding of Web3 principles, blockchain technology and NFTs
  • Exposure to social media networks, such as Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, Facebook and Snapchat, and their interactive features
  • A curious mindset, always searching for what’s next and how it could be used in a meaningful way to meet our business objectives
  • The ability to problem-solve with the confidence
  • Confidence to flag concerns and challenge assumptions on a regular basis
  • An eye for detail with a passion for visual perfection
  • Working collaboratively, able to communicate technical solutions effectively to less technical staff members and a commitment to be part of a successful team
  • Strong documentation skills (markdown, DFDs, well commented code etc)
  • Awareness of automated testing tools and linters
  • Understanding of working with, and developing against cloud architecture such as AWS
